Who We Are

Boreal Filter Tech Ltd. is a filter manufacturing company located in the quiet, North-Central Alberta town of Westlock. Our founder, Walter Cheladyn, began his career as a steamfitter before advancing to become a second-class Power Engineer, with a specialization in Steam-Assisted Gravity Drainage (SAGD) oil sands extraction.

At the SAGD sites where Walter worked, wastewater treatment relied heavily on physical filtration before disposal. Walter established Boreal Filter Tech Ltd. after recognizing a significant gap in international filter suppliers’ ability to meet their worksite’s inventory needs due to importing delays and costly tariffs.

Driven by these challenges, our company’s focus is to provide high quality, locally made, customized filter solutions that are produced in a timely manner at competitive prices. Capitalizing on Walter’s decades of industry experience, Boreal Filter Tech Ltd. is dedicated to offer not only quality products but also free industry consultation to support our client’s needs.

Our Mission Statement

To produce locally made, affordably priced filters.

Community Engagement

Boreal Filter Tech Ltd. is committed to actively participating in and contributing to the well-being of Westlock and surrounding communities. We are currently planning on supporting the following initiatives/groups:

  • Westlock Food Bank
  • École Westlock Elementary School
  • R.F. Staples Secondary School

Environmental Stewardship

One of the largest challenges to filter manufacturing is the realization that our products are single use plastic and will end up in a landfill. With the aim to counterbalance our environmental impact, we are actively pursuing collaboration with:

  • Operation Clean Sweep via the Chemistry Industry Association of Canada (CIAC)
  • Tree Canada

Our long-term goals are to investigate the viability of recycling filters, and/or using locally recovered and recycled plastic to manufacture our filtration products.
